After two heatwaves sent sales of fans and air conditioners soaring, a more discreet solution is steadily gaining popularity: the ceiling air circulator. A TF1 report filmed in Toulouse explains why it is winning over both homeowners and social housing providers, delivering several degrees of perceived cooling while consuming very little electricity. This energy-efficient approach perfectly reflects the objectives of the RE2020 environmental regulations.
The ceiling air circulator: an energy-efficient solution that transforms everyday comfort
From the opening seconds of the report, viewers can spot an Exhale ceiling fan on screen, the bladeless ceiling air circulator that has helped popularise this innovative concept. The story then follows Magali, a retired resident of Toulouse, who now starts each day by switching on her ceiling air circulator. Since it was installed, her old pedestal fan has been put away. “We’re finally comfortable again,” she says, highlighting the relief it provides as high temperatures become increasingly difficult to cope with.
The difference comes down to the way it works. A conventional fan pushes air in a single direction, meaning you have to stand in its airflow to feel the benefit. A ceiling air circulator, by contrast, keeps the entire volume of air moving throughout the room, preventing heat from accumulating near the ceiling. The result is a perceived temperature reduction of 4 to 5°C without actually cooling the air or relying on energy-hungry air conditioning.
The benefits extend well beyond private homes. In Toulouse, a social housing provider interviewed by TF1 has invested nearly €680,000 across its housing stock. Between 800 and 900 ceiling air circulators have already been installed as part of renovation projects, with around 400 additional installations planned. This demonstrates that these systems are now viewed as a long-term solution for improving summer comfort across entire buildings.
Beyond thermal comfort, the report highlights several other advantages. Ceiling air circulators operate much more quietly than pedestal fans while consuming significantly less electricity. One homeowner interviewed by the TF1 team was so convinced that he plans to install them throughout his house. Retailers are seeing the same trend, with one DIY chain reporting sales that have tripled in just one year. Recommended by the French High Council for Climate as an effective way to cope with extreme heat, the ceiling air circulator combines energy efficiency, comfort and sustainability in a single solution.
